Some scotch enthusiasts would cringe at the thought of mixing this classic, opulent liquor with other ingredients to make a cocktail. But we don’t like snobs and we love experiments. If you do the same and know that no liquor should be too high and mighty for a cocktail, get reading!
The name of the cocktail and the gentle, soothing properties of chamomile tea provide a comforting sense of familiarity that we can’t say many cocktails do. Nevertheless, it remains exciting and bold.
What you’ll need:
For cocktail –
- 44 ml Dewar’s 12
- 22 ml chamomile simple syrup
- 30 ml lemon juice
- Lemon peel as garnish
For chamomile simple syrup –
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 chamomile tea bags
Instructions:
For chamomile simple syrup –
- Bring water to boil and stir in sugar till fully dissolved
- Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat
- Add teabags and steep them for 10 minutes
- Remove teabags, cool mixture and store
For cocktail –
- Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice
- Shake well and strain into glass filled with ice
- Garnish with lemon peel and serve
No, this has nothing to do with actual penicillin or anything to do with past medical breakthroughs. It’s got everything to do with blended scotch whisky, lemon, honey and ginger though and that’s just fine by us!
What you’ll need:
For cocktail –
- 60 ml blended scotch whisky
- 22 ml lemon juice
- 22 ml honey syrup
- 3 slices fresh ginger
- 7 ml Islay single malt scotch
For honey syrup –
- Honey syrup
- Hot water
Instructions:
For honey syrup –
- Mix equal parts honey and hot water well
- Cool and then store
For cocktail –
- Muddle ginger at the bottom of a shaker, till well mashed
- Pour in scotch whisky, lemon juice, honey syrup
- Fill shaker with ice and shake well for 20 seconds
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice
- Pour Islay single malt scotch over back of bar spoon and float it on top
- Serve
For a drink named after something so iconic, the expectations are extremely high. And boy, does it deliver! A mix of blended scotch and amaretto, it’s an understatement to say it packs a punch. It’s also great for people easing their way into drinking straight up whisky.
What you’ll need:
60 ml blended scotch
7 ml amaretto
Instructions:
Fill up a mixing glass ⅔ of the way up with ice
Add both ingredient and stir till chilled
Strain into glass filled with ice
One of the classic scotch cocktails, this one was inspired by a famous movie of the same name (1922) starring Rudolph Valentino which was remade twice. This one’s got sweet citrus flavours, especially from the cherry brandy so you know you’re getting a great concoction.

- 22 ml scotch whisky
- 22 ml cherry brandy
- 22 ml fresh orange juice
- 22 ml sweet vermouth
- Orange slice as garnish
Instructions:
- Add ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and shake well
- Strain into a chilled glass
- Garnish and serve
Just like a martini, only better? We’re sold. The Affinity Cocktail substitutes the gin for scotch and also adds in Angostura bitters to set it a class apart from the already great martini. Make sure your blended scotch whisky is good quality because that could make or break this cocktail.
What you’ll need:
- 30 ml blended scotch whisky
- 30 ml sweet vermouth
- 30 ml dry vermouth
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Lemon twist
Instructions:
- Add scotch, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth and bitters in a shaker filled with ice
- Shake well and strain into glass filled with ice
- Squeeze lemon twist over glass and then drop it in
- Serve
