5 reasons to try Gin & Tonic

Natashaa Bandodkar - July 17, 2019

For someone who’s never tried Gin, learning about Gin and Tonic changed my perceptions big-time.

To begin with, you require only a handful of ingredients to make one. It’s just such a simple way to beat the summer heat.

Here are 5 reasons why you should try it out!

1. One of the easiest drinks you’ll ever make

Gin, tonic water, ice and a lime wedge, a fantastic four making for one super refreshing cocktail.

What’s important here is the ratio between the gin and tonic water. 1:3 (one-part gin, three parts tonic water) is considered to be the tried and tested formula, but feel free to experiment.

2. The taste makes for a memorable chemistry lesson

If you were to take a sip of gin followed by a sip of tonic water, it would taste absolutely horrendous! But mix the two and no one in their right mind would get enough of it.

Chemistry nerds can note this down. The molecules found in gin and tonic are attracted to one another because they share similar characteristics. When mixed, they form an aggregate which gives the drink a completely different flavour. Drink up!

3. It’s good for health

I know, I know I seem like a doctor over here. Health benefits of tequila and now this. But old habits die hard they say.

With gin acting like an in-house dispensary and taking care of my joint troubles, digestion issues, and making me glow along with me not having to bother about putting on some kilos, why shouldn’t I sip in some good old Gin & Tonic (in moderation, of course)?

4. It’s cheap

Money makes a big difference in whether we try out a new drink or not. But you don’t need to worry about Gin & Tonic as it’s extremely easy on the pocket. A Blue Riband quarter would cost you Rs. 140 while the tonic water is priced at Rs. 85. Such perfection in less than 230 rupees is a win-win situation, no?

5. Scope for some classy cocktails

You’d be surprised to know the number of variations of gin & tonic in existence.

There’s the cucumber G&T that’s perfect to keep you cool. Blackberry lovers can try out the Blackberry lemon gin & tonic. The same goes for raspberry, strawberry and cranberry fanatics. These cocktails are indeed berry good.
