Kanishka Punjabi - May 12, 2017

If sticking with the classics is not your thing, and you go on a lookout for new cocktails every time you want to quench your alcoholic desires, then we’ve got you covered here. The last decade has witnessed some of the best eateries and pubs crop up in Mumbai; many boasting of some unique concoctions that are bound to set your spirit free. We have picked five blends that you must try when you visit these popular places in the city.

Cosmo – Explosion @ Social, Mumbai: While ‘Social’ at any location in the city has come to be synonymous with the longest LIITs, don’t miss out on the ‘Cosmo – Explosion’ that’s proved to be quite a favorite here. The theater, the twist and the tang, this cocktail has it all. The glass is brought to the table with a small portion of candy-floss perched comfortably inside. Then a blissful mix of Smirnoff, Cranberry Juice, Triple sec and Malta Orange zest is poured over, bringing a dash of drama to the table. Watching the candy floss disintegrate and dissolve in the drink is just as satisfying as the cocktail itself. Where? Across Mumbai, Price? Rs. 295; available with Ketel One for Rs. 450

Oriental Passion @ The Daily: The trend of dry-ice being added to almost every cocktail seems to have found a permanent place with the bar-tenders in the city, and we certainly aren’t complaining; because it probably sets the tone for the drama that ensues when you are four drinks down. So, if you find yourself at The Daily, Bandra and are wondering which blend to pick, go for ‘Oriental Passion’ under the ‘Molecular Cocktails’ section on the menu. Draped in dry-ice, the vodka is flavored with basil, passion fruit and kaffir leaves. Yum! Where? Bandra, Price? Rs. 450

Laila @ True Tramm Trunk: This popular pub in Juhu serves an array of interesting in-house cocktails, with ‘Laila’ stealing the show, hands-down! Why you ask? Well, it’s a mixture of house-made gulkand and mawa, along with vodka and soda. Another one of their in-demand blends is the ‘Tharra’, that’s basically Bacardi infused with citrus and lemonade. However, you know you have to try a drink when it’s made using gulkand and mawa. The blends are served in the typical desi bottles, adding to the entire experience. Where: Juhu, Price:Rs 350

Soulsistah! @ The Hood: You know a pub takes its cocktails seriously when their in-house blends boast of well-thought-out names ranging from ‘Po’s Wife,’ a drink infused with Matcha (hinting at the Kung-Fu panda’s oriental lineage) to ‘Rum Bhi Hain Josh Main’ and ‘The Son Of Dragons.’ One of its popular blends, dubbed ‘Soulsistah!’ appears to be an ode to the classic cocktail – screwdriver, with a major twist. ‘Soulsistah!’ takes the alcoholic content up another notch with the addition of orange liqueur and beer to this vodka-based drink. A great option to give you company even when you dash to the dancefloor. Where? Malad, Price? Rs. 375
